Anna Gorbachyova, Soprano



  • Royal Academy of Music, Opera School, London, 2010 – 2012. Studied under Lillian Watson.

 On Stage

  • September 2010, performed Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky at the 9th International Chamber Music Festival in Nuremberg.
  • September 2010, performed Rameau at the Russian – French Festival “Four Centuries of French Music” in Kremlin in Moscow, conducted by Christophe Rousset.
  • December 2010, began professional operatic career having debuted as Musetta on the stage of the Hungarian State Opera in Puccini’s “La Bohème”.
  • August 2011, interpreted the title role in “La Calisto” by Cavalli at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music.
  • August 2011, performed solo recital with the ensemble Moderntimes_1800 at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music.
  • November 2011, sang the role of Nymphe in the world premiere of “Gogol” by Lera Auerbach in Theatre an der Wien. For this role Anna learnt to dance on pointe shoes.
  • March 2011, during studies at the Royal Academy of Music, performed role of Zhou in the world premiere of “Kommilitonen!” by Maxwell Davis, and conducted by Jane Glover.
  • May 2011, performed “Stabat Mater” by Boccherini for soprano solo in Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona with the Kammerorchester Berlin.
  • June 2011, performed “Les Noces” by Stravinsky at the Bath International Music Festival, conducted by Diego Masson.
  • March 2012, performed Queen of the Night in «Die Zauberflöte» by Mozart at the Royal Academy of Music, conducted by Jane Glover.
  • April 2012, performed the title role in “Le Rossignol” by Stravinsky directed by Robert Lepage at the Lyon Opera House.
  • June 2012, performed solo in “Ein deutsches Requiem” by Brahms at the Ulverston International Music Festival.
  • February 2013, performed Musetta in Wiener Kammeroper.
  • March-April 2013, performed at the London Handel Festival.
  • August 2013, debuted with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra having sung solo in Haydn’s “Nelson Mess,” conducted by John Gibbons at the Magna Carta anniversary concert in St Albans Cathedral.
  • September 2013, performed a diverse Baroque programme at the Varaždin International Baroque Evenings Festival in Croatia with the orchestra Pratum Integrum.
  • November 2013, sang “Four Last Songs” by Strauss with the Worthing Symphony Orchestra conducted by John Gibbons.
  • November 2013, performed Russian classicism at the Herne International Festival of Early Music with Pratum Integrum.
  • June 2014, performed the role of Madeline and Lady Madeline in “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “Usher House” by Debussy and Getty at the Welsh National Opera (directed by David Pountney).
  • December 2014, sang the role of the First Nymphe in Dvorak’s Rusalka at the Opera dell’Roma.
  • June 2015, took part in the Mozart Residency of the Academie du Festival d’Aix en Provence.
  • November 2015, debuted in the USA with the role of Katya “Die Passagerin» at Michigan Opera Theatre (“Siberian-born soprano Anna Gorbachyova As Katja… performs exquisitely” —; Another highlight was AG’s Katja, a prisoner who sings a soaring Russian folk-song” — Detroit Free Press 11.19.2015; “…given luminous voice in an astonishing performance by Anna Gorbachyova.” —

  • November 2007, First Prize at the 42nd International Antonín Dvořák Vocal Competition, Czech Republic.
  • April 2009, Third Prize at the 15th Ferruccio Tagliavini International Singing Competition in Deutschlandsberg, Austria.
  • May 2009, special prize at the Giuseppe Di Stefano International Opera Singing Competition “I Giovani e l’Opera,” Trapani, Italy.
  • January 2010, Honourable Mention Award at the 61st Competition for Young Opera Singers of Europe in Como, Italy.
  • August 2010, First Prize and the Audience Prize at the First International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti in Innsbruck, Austria.
  • August 2010, finalist, Concours international de chant de Marmande, France.

Anna studied in Master Classes led by: Renato Bruson, Teresa Berganza, John Copley, Christophe Rousset, Dennis O’Niel, Brindley Sherrat, Sally Burgess, Yuta Vulpius, Rosalind Plowright.
Anna’s current singing teacher is Rosa Mannion.
Anna speaks excellent English, good Italian and French and is studying German.
She has been receiving training in the ballroom dancing and classical choreography since 9 years old.
